Abstract

This essay, adopting a legal-informatics approach, analyzes the cyber risks associated with Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communications, a technology that enables the exchange of information among vehicles, thereby enhancing road safety and significantly reducing the risk of collisions. After introducing the concepts of the “age of data,” datification, and the principal communication standards underlying V2V systems, the paper focuses on several critical issues concerning both privacy protection and vulnerability to specific cyberattacks. Such attacks may undermine users’ autonomy by triggering a form of induced müssen in drivers. In the concluding remarks, the study advances a number of reflections aimed at reconciling technological innovation with the protection of drivers.
